Education and research

A teaching hospital, by design.

One curriculum, two countries, and a single research ledger shared with King's College Hospital London.

Our two missions

Educate the next generation. Research the next standard of care.

Two doctrines, set on the day the hospital opened, govern how we run our academic and research work in Jeddah.

01Education and training
Deliver education and training for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.

One curriculum runs across the King's London and King's Jeddah teams. Saudi consultants take protected time on London services; London consultants run lists in Jeddah. Nurses and midwives sit on a single, blended online and in-person programme.

02Research and innovation
Contribute to research, innovation, and clinical trials in the heart of our community in KSA.

Trials and outcomes flow on the same Veritas system as London. Studies opened in Jeddah are eligible to read across to the King's London ledger; investigators here are eligible to author on King's London-led publications.

What we run today

Five programmes, one register of work.

Each programme is governed by the parent hospital's standards in London and audited under the same Medical Advisory Board.

01

Clinical research

800+ studies, 19,000+ participants

Investigator-led trials, sponsored studies, and observational research, run on the same governance our parent hospital applies in London. Phase I oncology trials sit alongside the Sarah Cannon Phase 1 unit at King's College Hospital London, where our CEO helped shape the original trials infrastructure.

02

Publications

Co-authored across two sites

Investigators at our Jeddah site are eligible authors on King's London-led publications, and the registry of studies that opens here is read across to the parent ledger.

03

Residency and fellowship

Two-way, Jeddah and London

Clinical fellowships run in both directions: Saudi consultants spend protected time on London services; London consultants run lists in Jeddah.

04

CME and events

Accredited continuing medical education

A continuing programme of grand rounds, MDT teaching sessions, and visiting-consultant masterclasses, accredited for SCFHS CPD hours.

05

Nursing Academy

London Academy, opened March 2023

The King's College Hospital Nursing Academy in London provides every nurse and midwife in both teams access to blended online and in-person courses.

One Academy. Two countries. One register of nurses.

The King's College Hospital Nursing Academy opened in London in March 2023. Every nurse and midwife within both teams has access to its blended online and in-person courses, and the option to take protected time to work on the other site within a single curriculum.

Clinical research network

Trials in Jeddah, governed from London.

Three signals make the clinical-research programme a real King's London extension, not a logo on a protocol.

01

Phase 1 trials, with London oversight

The same Phase 1 governance pioneered at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in London informs the early-phase clinical work opened in Jeddah.

02

Studies on the King's London register

Studies opened at King's College Hospital London Jeddah are eligible to read across to the parent register, so investigators recruit from a single approved population.

03

Audited under the same Medical Advisory Board

The London Medical Advisory Board inspects research conduct in Jeddah on the same schedule it applies to London services.
